WHAT STAYS WITH YOU?

Last week, I did something that took me a little outside my comfort zone.

I reached out to several clients I’ve had the privilege of working with over the years and asked them a simple question:

What has stayed with you from our work together?

Asking for feedback about your own work isn't always easy. Especially when you're usually the one encouraging others to step outside their comfort zones!

Their responses were incredibly generous and moving. I felt grateful, touched, and, I must admit, a little overwhelmed.

But beyond the kind words, something else happened.

Reading about what my clients had taken away from our conversations reminded me of some of the principles that have shaped my approach to coaching over the years.

The true value of coaching is what stays with you.

It begins with trust!

One client, a highly accomplished entrepreneur and creator, shared how feeling comfortable enough to open up more than he had expected helped him grow faster and discover more about himself.

He then wrote:

“Best of all, the insights and tools he gave me have stayed with me, and I still use them to this day.”

Those words meant a great deal to me.

Because before meaningful change can happen, there needs to be trust.

Trust that you can speak openly without being judged. Trust that your concerns, doubts, and aspirations will be genuinely heard. And trust that you can explore unfamiliar perspectives without being told who you should become.

Whether someone is navigating a professional transition, facing a difficult decision, questioning a relationship, or simply feeling stuck, that sense of safety creates the space for honest reflection.

And sometimes, the most important discoveries begin with a question we haven't allowed ourselves to ask.

Insight is only the beginning.

A meaningful coaching conversation can bring clarity, challenge an assumption, or reveal a pattern we hadn't previously recognized.

But awareness alone doesn't necessarily create change.

What matters is what we do with that awareness.

Do we approach a difficult conversation differently?

Do we become more conscious of the habits that influence our decisions?

Do we learn to recognize our emotional responses before reacting?

Do we begin making choices that are more aligned with our values and aspirations?

These are the moments when insight starts becoming action.

And when those actions are repeated, they can gradually become new habits, new ways of thinking, and new ways of responding to life's challenges.

The goal is independence.

I have always believed that coaching should empower people rather than create dependence.

My role isn't to provide all the answers or tell someone how to live their life.

It's to help them develop greater self-awareness, explore possibilities, challenge limiting beliefs, and discover practical tools they can continue using independently.

Because the real measure of coaching isn't simply how someone feels at the end of a session.

It's how they navigate life long after our conversations have ended.

That is what I found so meaningful in my client's words: the realization that something we explored together had become part of the way he continues to approach his life.

And for me, few things are more rewarding.

A few more reflections to come...

Over the coming weeks, I'd like to share a few more lessons inspired by what my clients have taken away from our work together.

From turning insight into action to challenging old assumptions, building confidence, and creating meaningful change.

Not as a celebration of coaching itself, but as an invitation to reflect on what helps us grow, both personally and professionally.

To everyone who generously took the time to share their experiences with me, thank you. Your words reminded me why I love what I do.

And perhaps there's a question worth asking ourselves, regardless of whether we've ever worked with a coach:

What experiences, conversations, or relationships have left us with something valuable that we still carry today?

Because every journey is unique, I tailor my coaching to your story, your needs, and the changes you wish to make.
